Beginning Biomes

What if the first impression children received of their world was of land and ocean, mountains and deserts, forests and grasslands, wetlands and frozen poles rather than abstract, divisive, political boundaries?

What if geography, earth science, and physics were woven into the study of biological science to present to the child an ecological view of an interdependent environment, helping the child to develop an understanding more connected then that of prior generations? What if, in so doing, we abandoned our traditional methods of isolating subject matter and encouraged the children to make their own connections? Suppose that they began to think more critically and creatively, became stakeholders in their own learning process and their own environments.

Waseca materials are inquiry based. Using the following key questions you can get started with your biome study and guide your exploration.
What is a biome?
What are the parts of a biome?
What are the different biomes?
The materials on this page were designed to help answer these questions in the classroom and outdoors.
